Privacy policy
Daychek keeps your lists, routines, habits, money, home, wardrobe and wellbeing notes in one app. This page says exactly what we store, where it goes, how long we keep it and how you control it.
The short version
- We store what you put into Daychek so it syncs between your devices, plus the few technical details listed below.
- No ads, no analytics or tracking tools, no crash-reporting services. We don't sell or share your data for marketing.
- Mood, cycle and health check-ups are health data. We store them only after you say yes, and you can take that back at any time, which deletes them.
- Sharing prices with the community is off until you switch it on. Shared prices are anonymous: other people see only combined prices, never who reported them.
- You can download everything we hold (Settings → Privacy → Export my data) and delete your account in the app or on this page.

What we store, feature by feature
When you use Daychek with an account, the app keeps your data on your device and syncs it to our server. On the web, the device copy lives in your browser's storage.
| Feature | What our server stores |
|---|---|
| Account | Email address, display name, how you sign in (email, Google, Apple or guest), a one-way hash of your password (bcrypt, email accounts only), your plan (Free, Premium or Family, and its end date), your app settings (what you track, base currency, app language, first-run answers) and when these were created or changed. |
| Email accounts | Whether you confirmed your email address, and when. The confirmation link we email works for 1 hour, once; we keep only a one-way hash of it. |
| Sign in with Google | We check Google's sign-in token on our server and keep the verified email address, your name and Google's id for your account (so a changed email still finds you). |
| Sign in with Apple | We check Apple's sign-in token on our server and keep the email it contains (this can be an Apple private relay address). If Apple sends no email, we make a stand-in address from Apple's id for you. We keep Apple's id for your account, and the name only if you share it. |
| Guest | An account without email or name. What you add syncs to our server under that account. If our server can't be reached, the guest stays on your device only. |
| Profile picture | The picture you upload, redrawn by our server (which drops hidden data such as the photo's location) and stored under a random name. It is only sent to people signed in to Daychek who have its link. |
| Lists and templates | Titles, items, quantities, units, prices, due dates, repeats and the store they belong to. |
| Shared lists | Who is a member and their role. Members see each other's display names; the list owner also sees members' email addresses. If you make a share link, anyone who has the link can open the list (and change it, for an edit link) until you revoke it. |
| Assigned list items | On the Family plan, a list member can assign a to-do or shopping-list item to family members who can open that list, choose whether everyone or anyone has to do it, and add a time. We store who it is assigned to, how, the time, who set it, and who ticked it off and when. Everyone who can open the list sees who an item is assigned to and who ticked it off (by display name); people who open the list through a share link don't. The assignment goes with the item, and someone who leaves the family or the list, is removed or deletes their account is taken off it. |
| Family | If you're in a Family plan: who owns it, who is a member and when they joined, and open invites (an invite code or link lasts 7 days and is stored only as a hash; an email invite keeps the email address the owner typed until it is accepted, declined or cancelled, or the family ends; it can be accepted for 30 days). Members see the owner's display name; the owner sees members' display names and email addresses. Leaving, being removed or deleting your account ends your membership; if the owner deletes their account, the family ends and members go back to the free plan. The same happens when the owner cancels the family plan in the app. The rules below (Family rules) add a short history of who joined and left. |
| Catalog | Products (name, brand, barcode, price, picture link), categories, stores (name, the location text and website you enter) and the prices you log. |
| Community prices | Only if you switch on sharing (Settings → Privacy → Share my prices with the community): when you log a price for a product with a barcode at one of your stores that you linked to a shop, our server records the barcode, the shop, the price, its currency and country, the date, and whether it came from a receipt. Everyone sees only the combined price per shop and chain, how many reports it rests on and when the latest was made, never who reported it. We keep which account sent each report, shown to no one, to allow one report per product, shop and day, to stop abuse and to give more weight to people whose prices usually match what others report. Reports from Premium accounts and Family owners count a little more. If you are in a family, each report also carries a key for your family, so that reports from several family members about the same product at the same shop on the same day count as one. The link between your store and a shop, and pack sizes you suggest for a product, are stored with your account. You share prices in one country only, your price country (see Your price country below). Shop names and places come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors); searching them doesn't contact OpenStreetMap. |
| Habits | Habits and the days you log them. |
| Today layout | Which tiles you show on Today and in what order, and which of your habits appear there. It syncs to your other devices and is in your data export. |
| Money | Expenses and income: title or source, amount, currency, date, category, whether it repeats. |
| Home | Homes (name and the address if you enter one), rooms, cleaning tasks and schedules, laundry. |
| Routines | The routines you set up for your home, car, kids, health check-ups and appointments, and bills, repeating or one-off: title, note, category, the template it came from, how it repeats, due times, reminder settings, who or what it is for (a name you type, such as a child's or pet's first name or a car's name, not an account), the linked car, the next due date or km, whether it is switched on, its cost (amount, currency and category) and, on the Family plan, how it is shared (with the whole family, who it is assigned to, and turns). When a routine is done we store which date it was for, when it was done, by which account, and the km and cost if you enter them. When you complete a routine with a cost, mark a bill as paid or log a fill-up, the app adds an expense on your device, which syncs like any other expense. Health check-ups and appointments are health data (below). For a pet we also store its kind (dog, cat or other); its birthday, vet visits and the like are ordinary routines with their dates. For a course of medication we also store the dose you write, how many doses a pack holds, the day you started the pack, the day the course ends, and whether you took or skipped each dose. A routine can skip Malta state-school holidays and public holidays, using a calendar built into the app (nothing is sent anywhere to look them up), and the days off you pick, which are stored with the routine. For bin days we store only the weekdays you choose, never where you live. Pet costs are added to Money like other routine costs. |
| Documents and renewals | For an ID card, passport, driving licence or warranty: its name, the expiry date, an optional note and the reminders you set. We never ask for a document's number or a scan, so please don't type one into the note. A warranty receipt photo you add stays on your device and is never uploaded to our server. |
| Cars and fuel | The car's name, its number plate if you enter one, its km and when you last updated them, its fuel tank size if you enter one, and your fuel log (date, litres, total price, currency, km, whether you filled the tank, and the expense it created). Your cars and fuel log are only ever shown to you, never to family members, even when you share a car routine. The km you enter when you complete a routine can update the linked car's km. |
| Saved places and car trips | Only while Car is switched on in What you track: the places you save (a name such as Home, its kind, and the town, village or bus stop you picked from OpenStreetMap, never a GPS position or an address), and on each shopping trip where the drive started (one of your saved places or your previous shop), when you left, the map distance, whether it counts the way back, the fuel cost and which of your cars you drove. |
| Wardrobe | Clothes (name, brand, type, colours, seasons, notes), outfits, the days you wear them, and the photos you add. Photos are stored as files on our server and are only ever sent back to you when you are signed in. Background removal runs on our own server, so your photos never go to another company. |
| Mood and cycle | Only with your consent (below): mood scores and notes; cycle start and end dates, lengths, daily flow, symptoms, mood and notes. |
| Messages in the app | When the service owner posts a message in the app, we record that your account saw it and whether you closed it, so it doesn't come back on your other devices. The service owner sees only how many accounts saw and closed each message; we record nothing else about it, such as clicks. A message can be aimed at everyone, at free or paid accounts, or at one country, which is worked out from the shops you linked on the map (nothing new is collected for this). |
| Sync | A record of which item changed and when, so your other devices can catch up. When you delete something, a marker with only the item's type and id (no content) stays for up to 90 days so your other devices delete it too. |
| Plan management | The service owner can see account emails, how each account signs in and its plan in an admin view, to give or remove Premium or Family (or extra Family seats) and to handle account requests. The admin view also shows whether an account owns or belongs to a family. Each such change, and each promo code you redeem (the code and when), is logged with the time. |
Reminders are scheduled on your device and shown as local notifications; they are not sent through our server.
Home-screen widgets (iPhone and Android) keep a copy of what they show on your device only: the habits, today's routines and shopping-list lines from the areas you track (on iPhone, in storage shared only by the app and its widgets). A tap on a widget is saved on your device and synced by the app like any change you make in it; widgets send nothing to us or anyone else, and signing out clears their copy. Health reminders are never shown in widgets.
Health data: mood, cycle and health check-ups
Mood and menstrual-cycle entries, the health check-ups and appointments in Routines (such as the dentist, your doctor or an eye test), and medication routines (the medicine's name, dose, times, course and pack), are health data, a special category under the GDPR (Art. 9). Before the first mood or cycle entry or health routine is saved, Daychek asks for your explicit consent and explains what is stored. Our server refuses mood and cycle entries, and refuses to save or tick off a health routine, for an account that has not consented.
For a health routine we keep only what the routine needs: a title, the dates, an optional note and its settings. Please don't write diagnoses or treatment details in the note. A health routine is shown only to you and the family members you assign it to, or to your whole family if you share it with them, and only to those who have given their own health consent.
We use this data only to show it back to you on your devices, and to the family members you share a health routine with. You can delete single entries at any time. Withdrawing consent (Settings → Privacy → Health data) deletes every mood and cycle entry, your health routines and their completions, and the times you ticked off a family member's health routine, on every device and on our server, and stops syncing them. Health routines that others shared with you are removed from your devices until you consent again. Withdrawing consent also takes you off the health routines family members assigned to you, so the others can carry on without you.
Cycle estimates in the app are simple averages of your own entries. They are not medical advice and not a method of contraception.
Routines shared in a family
On the Family plan you can share a routine with your family or assign it to members: everyone does it, whoever does it first, or you take turns. Family members who can see a routine see its title and details, when it is due, whose turn it is, and who completed it and when (by display name). Our server sends a routine and its completions only to the accounts allowed to see it. Everyone in a family sees the display names of the other members (never their email addresses; only the family owner sees those) so that routines can be assigned.
Other family members never see your cars or fuel log, your health routines unless you assigned or shared them, or routines you neither shared nor assigned. When someone leaves the family or is removed, is no longer assigned, or you stop sharing, the routine is removed from their devices. The routines of someone who leaves the family stay theirs.
Family rules
To keep Family fair, our server keeps a history of each family: who joined it and when, who left and when, and whether they left on their own, were removed by the owner or the family ended. It uses this to apply the rules in the terms: you can join a different family once every 12 months, and an owner can remove at most 2 members in any 12 months. It also stores how many extra seats an owner has. To check that the owner and a new member are in the same country, it works out each person's country from the shops they linked on the map; nothing new is collected for this, and when a country isn't known the check is skipped.
Once a day our server also looks for families that look unusual, for example members who share nothing after 30 days together, members whose linked shops have nothing in common, or many joins and removals. It only flags them for the service owner, who checks them by hand in the admin panel and notes what they found. A flag never removes anyone, changes a plan or sends a message on its own.
For community prices a family counts as one household (see Community prices above). A join record is kept while you are in that family and deleted 12 months after you leave it; a removal record is deleted 12 months after the removal. Flags are kept while the family exists. When you delete your account, your join records and the removals you made are deleted; if an owner removed you, that removal stays only as a time, without any link to you, so the owner's limit stays correct. Your own join and leave records are in your data export; removal records and flags are not, because they name other people or are the service owner's review notes.
Sharing prices with the community
Sharing is off by default. The app asks once, the first time you log a price at a linked shop, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy. Guest accounts can't share. Switching sharing off stops new reports at once. Reports you already shared stay part of the combined prices, still without your name. Deleting a price you logged also deletes its report. When you delete your account, the link between your reports and your account is removed, so they become fully anonymous. Reports are deleted one year after the day they describe.
Reporting a wrong price
If you are signed in with an account (not as a guest), you can report a community price as wrong: a different price, not sold here, the wrong product or something else, and you can add the correct price. We store the report with your account id, the product's barcode, the shop, the reason, the price you entered and the time. A report at once makes that price count less and flags it for review; when 3 different people report it, it is hidden until new prices are reported. The owner of Daychek reviews reported prices in the admin panel and can hide a price, show it again or correct it; each such change is logged. Nobody else sees who reported a price. To stop abuse, you can report a product at a shop once a day, and there are limits per account and per IP address. Reports are deleted 1 year after they were made. When you delete your account, the link between your reports and your account is removed. Your reports are in your data export.
Shopping trips
When you tap Start shopping or Done — heading out, or tick items off a list at one of your shops, Daychek records that shopping trip: which of your own shops (as you named it), the list, when it started and ended, your device's time-zone offset (for the weekday and time of day), how many items went in the cart, what they cost, the order you ticked them in, and the barcodes in your cart. We use this to show your trip times and totals, to learn the order of your shop so we can offer to sort your list along it, to suggest a basket or trolley, and (Premium) to show insights such as your quickest times and fastest shop. We never use your location or GPS, and we don't record anything while Shopping is switched off in What you track. Trips are yours only. You can delete a trip at any time, and all of them with Delete Shopping data or by deleting your account. They are in your data export.
Saved places and drive times
If you track Car, you can save places such as Home or Work. A saved place is a name you choose and a town, village or bus stop you pick from a list made from OpenStreetMap data; we never ask for or record your GPS position or your address. To show drive times, the best order for several shops, the nearest bus stop to a shop and fuel stations on the way, our own server works out routes on OpenStreetMap map data, between the place or shop you pick and your shops that you linked to a shop on the map. No other company receives your places or routes. We keep a cache of drive times between map places and shops that is not linked to any account, and we don't log places, shops or routes. Drive times are map estimates without live traffic. While Car is tracked, a shopping trip also records where the drive started, when you left, the map distance, whether it counts the way back, the fuel cost and which car you drove. While Car is switched off in What you track, the app stores and sends none of this. Saved places are yours only. You can delete a place at any time, and all of them by deleting your account. They are in your data export.
Anonymous cart-size answers
After a trip you can tell us whether the suggested basket or trolley was the right size. That answer adjusts future suggestions for you. If you share community prices (Settings → Privacy) and have an account, it also adds one anonymous "bigger / smaller than expected" vote for each barcode that was in your cart. We combine these votes to improve size estimates for everyone, and only use a product's result once at least 3 different people have contributed. No one else can see your votes or link them to you. When you delete your account, your votes stay only as anonymous inputs with no link to you. Turning off community sharing stops new votes.
Chek points and leaderboards
If you share prices, Daychek keeps a list of the Chek points you earned: what each was for, when, and at which shop. It shows your points, level, badges and prizes, and ranks contributors for the monthly and yearly prizes.
Leaderboards are opt-in (Settings → Privacy). Other people see only the nickname you choose and your points, never your name or email. Prize winners who aren't on the leaderboard are listed as Anonymous contributor. The owner of Daychek sees contributors' email addresses in the admin panel, only to hand out prizes and stop abuse.
When you delete your account, your points, nickname, badges and prizes are deleted. A shop you suggested stays on the map without your name. Your points are in your data export.
Your price country
When you first switch on sharing prices, Daychek asks for your price country: the one country where you share prices and earn Chek points. It suggests the country your phone's region setting names, never your GPS position or where you are; you confirm it or pick another country that has community shops. We store the country you chose and when you last set it. You see and change it in Settings → Privacy, at most once every 90 days.
Prices, confirmations, wrong-price reports and shop suggestions are accepted only for shops in your price country, and Chek points, badges, leaderboards and prizes count only there. You can still see community prices in other countries. Points you earned stay in the country where you earned them. While you are a member of a family, the family owner's price country counts for you; your own choice is kept and counts again if you leave.
Your phone's region is sent once, with your choice, only to compare it with the country you picked; it is not stored. If it, or the country of the shops you linked on the map, is different from your price country, our server flags your account for the service owner. A flag stores your price country, the reason (phone region or linked shops), when it was raised and, once the owner has checked it by hand in the admin panel, when that was and the note they wrote. A flag never changes your country, your points or your plan on its own. The owner of Daychek can also let you change your country before the 90 days are over; this is logged.
Your price country and when you set it are in your data export; flags are not, because they are the service owner's review notes. A checked flag is deleted 12 months after it was resolved. When you delete your account, your price country and your flags are deleted.
Referral program
Guest accounts can't take part. If you invite friends or join with a code, Daychek stores your personal code, the link between the two accounts (who referred whom, and when) and a count of how often your link was opened, without recording who opened it.
To stop people from referring themselves, the app sends a random id that is made for each app install. We store only a keyed one-way hash of it, at most a few per account, and use it only to stop self-referral and to give the welcome month once per person. For accounts in the referral program we also keep a keyed one-way hash of who paid (the email used at web checkout, or the store's original purchase id), to spot a person paying for their own referral.
From RevenueCat and LemonSqueezy we receive the payment status of a referred subscription: paid, refunded or cancelled, the period and the plan, never card details. We keep the rewards and a log of every change to them.
The person who invited you sees you only as Friend 1, Friend 2 and so on, with your plan and the reward status, never your name or email. The person you invited sees only that they joined with a code. The owner of Daychek sees the email addresses of both accounts in the admin panel, only to check rewards and stop abuse.
We use this data to run the program (contract) and to prevent fraud (legitimate interest). It is kept until you delete your account. When you do, your code, the referral links and the install and payer hashes are deleted. The person who invited you keeps only anonymous reward counts (months and dates), so their limit of 12 months a year stays correct. Log entries lose the link to your account. If you got the free welcome month, the hash of the install id that got it is kept with no link to any account, so the month can't be claimed again on that phone. Your referral data is in your data export.
Who else handles data
| Who | When | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Hetzner Online GmbH (data centre in Nuremberg, Germany) | Always: hosts our server, database, photo files and backups. | Everything our server stores, as our processor. |
| If you sign in with Google. On the web app, your browser also loads Google Fonts and Google's sign-in script from Google. | Your Google sign-in happens with Google. When the web app loads, Google receives your IP address and browser details. | |
| Apple | If you sign in with Apple on iPhone. | Your Apple sign-in happens with Apple. |
| Apple App Store, Google Play and RevenueCat | If you buy Premium or Family on iPhone or Android. | The store handles the payment. RevenueCat checks your purchase for the app. When you are signed in, the app identifies you to RevenueCat by your Daychek account id (a random id, not your email or name), and RevenueCat tells our server which plan the purchase gives and when it ends, so your plan follows your account on every device and a Family owner can invite people. When you earn a referral reward on Google Play, our server asks RevenueCat to move your next billing date later, using your account id and the product. |
| LemonSqueezy | If you buy Premium or Family on the web or desktop. | Checkout opens on LemonSqueezy, which collects your payment details as the seller of record. It then tells our server your account id or email so we can switch Premium on. When you earn a referral reward on the web, our server asks LemonSqueezy to pause the charges of your subscription for the reward months. |
| Open Food Facts | When you look up a barcode. | The barcode number, sent from your device (and, for lookups through our server and for barcodes shared with the community, from our server, which caches the product details without linking them to you). Open Food Facts sees the IP address of whoever asks. |
| ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com) | When the app refreshes currency rates. | A currency code, from your device, and your IP address. Our server also fetches rates with its own key, without any user data. |
| Open-Meteo | When Wardrobe suggests outfits. | A request for the weather at a fixed place set in the app (not your location), and your IP address. |
| Resend | If you ask for a password reset, or sign up with email. | Your email address and the reset or confirmation link. |
Some of these companies are outside the European Economic Area and handle data under their own terms and safeguards. We use no other services with your data. Drive times, bus stops and fuel stations are worked out on our own server from OpenStreetMap data, so no other company receives your places.
Why we may use it (legal bases)
- To provide Daychek to you (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b), contract): your account, sync, sharing, backups, purchases and the referral program.
- Your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)): mood and cycle data, and health check-ups and appointments.
- Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): sharing your prices with the community.
- Keeping the service safe (Art. 6(1)(f), legitimate interest): limiting sign-in attempts, keeping community prices free of abuse (one report per product, shop and day, and how reliable a reporter's prices have been) and correct (wrong-price reports), stopping self-referral and referral fraud (hashed install and payer ids), applying the family rules (family history and flags), checking price countries (price-country flags) and error logs.
How long we keep it
| Data | Kept |
|---|---|
| Your account and everything in it | Until you delete it, or delete the account. |
| Deletion markers (type and id only) | Up to 90 days. |
| Nightly backups of the database and photo files | Deleted after 14 days. They are stored on the same server provider. |
| Password reset links | 1 hour, kept in memory only, single use. |
| Email confirmation links | 1 hour, single use. |
| Sign-in sessions | 1 hour, renewable for up to 30 days; every renewal replaces the old renewal key. Logging out or changing your password ends every session at once. |
| Community price reports | Deleted 1 year after the day they describe. The link to your account is removed when you delete the account. |
| Shopping trips | Until you delete them, delete your Shopping data, or delete the account. |
| Saved places | Until you delete them or delete the account. |
| Drive-time cache (map places and shops, no link to any account) | 30 days. |
| Anonymous cart-size votes | Kept as anonymous inputs; the link to your account is removed when you delete the account. |
| Wrong-price reports | Deleted 1 year after they were made. The link to your account is removed when you delete the account. |
| Family join and removal history | Joins: while you are in the family, then 12 months after you leave. Removals: 12 months. Your own records go when you delete the account. |
| Family flags | While the family exists. |
| Price country | Until you change it or delete the account. |
| Price-country flags | Until checked, then 12 months after they were resolved. Deleted with your account. |
| Messages in the app you saw or closed | Until you delete the account. |
| Referral links, install and payer hashes | Until you delete the account. The person who invited you then keeps only anonymous reward counts. |
| Rate-limit counters (IP address, email) | A few minutes, in memory only. |
We don't keep an access log of requests to Daychek. The server keeps technical error logs to fix problems.
When you delete your account, every row it owns is deleted in one step, together with your profile picture and wardrobe photos. This includes your routines with their completions and assignments, the times you completed other people's routines, your cars and your fuel log, your saved places, and the times you ticked off list items assigned to you. Community price reports you shared stay, without any link to you. Copies in backups disappear when those backups expire (14 days).
How we protect it
- All traffic uses HTTPS. Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes.
- Every request for your data is checked against your account. Other people can't read it or link to it, except the lists you share, the share links you make and the routines you share with your family (see above).
- Deleting your account needs your password, a fresh Google or Apple sign-in, or a sign-in in the last few minutes.
- The database has no connection to the internet; only our server reaches it.
- Sign-in, password reset, background removal, export, shop search, community prices and referral codes are rate-limited.
